Cable, NFL Rift Worries Lawmakers
By William Pack -- San Antonio Express-News, 10/12/2007
The high-powered battle between the NFL Network, Time Warner Cable and other cable television providers became more of a political football this week.
Five state legislators from San Antonio sent a letter to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission over the issue. They said area fans would be "deeply disappointed" if the dispute were not resolved in time for fans to watch two Dallas Cowboys games and one Houston Texans game later in the season.
"For there to be true competitive access in programming, consumer demand must take precedence over corporate profits," the letter said. "We respectfully ask that you side with the fans in looking at this issue and assign a neutral arbitrator to settle this dispute (as we understand was done in Mid-Atlantic Sport Network's dispute in the Washington, D.C., area with Comcast) as soon as possible — and certainly before the first of such games is scheduled to played this November."
